• Which one is a full birth certificate?

A full birth certificate refers to your long-form birth certificate, which includes not only the recorded details of the child, but also the parents’ details. The full certificate is often needed for a range of purposes, such as school places, new passports and visa applications, rather than commemorative certificates.

• How can I check my birth certificate online?

Unfortunately, there is no way to check your birth certificate online for people born in the UK. If you have lost your birth certificate, the quickest way to access it is by ordering a replacement copy and using our fastest delivery service to receive it within the next few days.

• How do I get a PDF birth certificate?

• Can I get my birth certificate in person?

Some local register or registry offices allow you to order and collect certificates in person. You’ll need to check whether this is an option online or by phone. However, ordering and collecting in person won’t make the process any quicker, and could actually delay your birth certificate if there are any issues with your application.

• Can I order a birth certificate for someone else?

Birth certificates are a legal record. As such, you can order a birth certificate on behalf of someone else as long as you have all the relevant details including names (child and parents), dates and the birth place.

• Can I order an adoption birth certificate?

In the UK, when an adoption occurs, a new birth certificate is issued in the child’s adoptive name, superseding the original. This adoption birth certificate is a legal document confirming the adoption and details about the adoptive parents. To order a replacement, one can go through governmental channels, although this can be time-consuming and prone to errors. Alternatively, UK Official Certificates provides a swift online application process for ordering a replacement adoption birth certificate, with a specialist team verifying the information to avoid errors, ensuring a faster processing time. They offer various pricing tiers depending on the urgency, with next-day dispatch available.

While local registry offices offer replacements, UK Official Certificates provides a quicker online alternative, cross-referencing your details with official databases for accuracy. With their streamlined process, replacing your stolen birth certificate is swift and stress-free.

A range of different applications require a certified copy of your UK birth certificates. Put simply, this is a copy of the original document, certified to show that it’s a true copy.

• How much is a full birth certificate?

The cost of your full birth certificate copy depends on how quickly you want or need the replacement. Prices start from as little as £24.95 for our standard service and go up to £74.95 for our priority service.

For more information, read this guide on the cost of a birth certificate in the UK.

• Can you send a replacement birth certificate quickly without some information?

It depends on what information you’re missing and how long ago the birth was. However, the answer is usually yes. We can usually access official records to fill in any gaps in the information you’ve provided, as well as correcting errors. That said, births in the past 50 years do require more information by law.

• Can I get a birth certificate from the past 18 months?

You can order a birth certificate from the past 18 months, but it may take a little longer. This is simply due to the complexities of the archive system in the UK, which makes it a little harder to access documents from the recent past.

• Will I get a short or long version of my birth certificate?

At UK Official Certificates, we provide the full, long version of your UK birth certificate. This allows you to use it for various applications such as school, passports and even visas.

Learn more about the difference between short and long birth certificates.

• What information does my birth certificate duplicate include?

As a certified copy of your original, full birth certificate, the duplicate will include your full name, date of birth and location of birth with the registration district, sub-district and county. In addition, there will also be the full name of your mother including your mother’s maiden name, plus a signature, residence and description of the informant, which is usually the mother.

The birth certificate will include the father’s full name and occupation if he is named. Finally, you’ll see the registration date for the birth, the signature of the registrar and the date of production for the certificate.

• Will I get the time of birth?

UK birth certificates usually do not include the time of birth. However, one exception to this is for multiple births, such as twins or triplets, where the birth certificate includes the time of birth alongside the date. As a result, we cannot provide the time of birth for the majority of replacement birth certificates.
